What is a Chamber of Commerce?
I am so pleased to have been elected as president of the Sussex and District Chamber of Commerce for the 2017-2018 year. I will work hard at carrying on the great work started by our most recent past president, Mr. Ivan Graham. Working with Ivan over the past few years at the Chamber has taught me so much professionally and personally. To this position I bring a willingness to keep an open mind for new ideas and views and to help further develop and implement the vision for this historic organization, but with a modern twist.
Our Chamber believes that there is great value in the networking opportunities afforded our members who meet at least on a month for governance, social, and educational gatherings. Our member and guest meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month. These “Lunch and Learn” gatherings allow busy members and guests to enjoy lunch while listening to a guest speaker present a business related topic. The networking opportunity at our “Lunch and Learn” sessions allows Chamber members to expand their referral circle!
The Chamber provides its members with information and updates on current issues that affect NB and the Sussex area. Please consider sharing your energy and expertise in one or more of our committees such as Media and Communications; Finance; Event Planning and Strategic Planning. The SDCC enjoys its working relationship with several organizations including the Town of Sussex, The Rotary Club of Sussex and The Sussex Valley ATV Association. You will surely want to be involved in our major events: our Annual General Meeting with keynote speaker in the Spring; Annual Golf Tournament; Annual Awards Banquet in the Fall.
A strong and active Chamber (49 years strong!) is ready to provide input into issues affecting businesses in and around the Sussex area. Collectively, our Chamber has a voice at the provincial and national levels as well.
